Dear Jane,

Thanks for your letter. I was very glad to receive it and know that you are fine. This year we will celebrate the 70 th anniversary of Victory Day. This day is one of the greatest holidays in our country.
I want to tell you about my great-grandfather, who was a soldier of the Great Patriotic War. His name is Petrin Pavel Mihaylovich. He was 18 when the Great Patriotic War started. He went to the front. His girl-friend left to wait for him. It was very difficult situation for both of them. But they overcame all. Pavel Mihaylovich went through the war as an ordinary soldier. He is lucky he is still alive and unharmed.
In 1945, the great-grandfather participated in the Victory Parade in Moscow. He watched  the fireworks at night in honor of the great Victory and the winners who brought us peace and joy. The Victory salute thundered in his honor including, in the honor of the simple country guy, and this pride and joy overflowed his heart, which yearned to go home, to his native village of Ivatino, where his girl-friend Sasha was waiting for him.
When he returned home, he married his loving girl-friend. This girl was my great-grandmother Petrina Alexandra Ilyinichna. Together they lived a long happy life, raised children and grandchildren.
My great-grandfather was awarded the Order of Red Banner, but he was especially proud of the Medal of Honor. I am proud of my great-grandfather! You can see his photo here.

Do you have any relatives, who took part in the Great Patriotic War?
Come to us on this holiday.

Best wishes,
